A Woman Among Warlords:
The Extraordinary Story of an Afghan Who Dared to Raise Her Voice

A Talk & Book Signing by
Malalai Joya

Malalai Joya has been called the bravest woman in Afghanistan. Elected to the Afghan parliament in 2003 and 2005, she was suspended in 2007 for challenging the presence of warlords in the Afghan parliament. She has been compared to the symbol of Burma's democracy movement, Aung San Suu Kyi.

Malalai Joya will talk about her memoir:
"A Woman Among Warlords: The Extraordinary Story of An Afghan Who Dared Raise Her Voice".

Read Johann Hari's article about his meeting with her: "Malalai Joya: The Woman Who Will Not Be Silenced" The Independent (7/28/09)

"Joya is raising an eloquent voice, and we owe to her, and to her people, to listen carefully, to learn, and to act." -- Noam Chomsky
