South
Bay Mobilization to Stop the War
and Many Others Protest Against
Lockheed Martin Corporation - April 7th
On Monday, April
7th, 2003, 25 people, representing many organizations
within Santa Clara County, including the South Bay Mobilization,
read a prepared statement to a representative of Lockheed
Martin Corporation, the largest weapons manufacturer in
the world, in Sunnyvale, CA.
The San Jose Mercury
News printed an article about the event in Tuesday's paper (April
8th), we counted 22 people there early on, not 20 as the article
said, but people joined us later bringing the total more likely
to 25.

To the people of Lockheed Martin Corporation,
We, as concerned members of the South Bay
community, come here today to express our outrage and sorrow
at the development of weapons of mass destruction happening
in our own backyard. The communications and weapons systems
being researched and produced at this very site in Sunnyvale
are currently being used to kill innocent Iraqis, with a body
count on the order of 1000.
The commitment to human rights and environmental
justice that the corporation professes are contradicted by
practices such as the unrestrained use of depleted uranium
and antipersonnel mines, to name just a few. Furthermore,
the military contracts made between the U.S. government and
companies such as Lockheed not only cause international devastation,
but also domestic hardship when money is channeled from education
and healthcare to funding of weapons systems.
This company is a key player in this unjust
war, and must therefore be prepared to take responsibility
for the injustices. We can no longer allow the business of
warfare to continue as usual.
We ask that this letter be distributed to
the people of Lockheed Martin, We ask that the people of the
corporation examine and question their involvement in a process
for which the main goal is finding ways to destroy life. We
respectfully invite you to enter into dialogue with us that
will be the beginning of a much needed domestic weapons inspections
process.
Respectfully,
South Bay Community Against the War
