FIVE DAY FAST TO LET IRAQ LIVE
Invitation to Opening Ceremony on Dec. 15, 2002
Dear Friends:
Thank you to everyone who has been so forthcoming with support
for the Five Day Fast to Let Iraq Live. Word is spreading and the
ball is definitely rolling...we have just under a week
until the Opening Ceremony.
Here's an update on the progress of the Fast (official announcement
below) We have nine confirmed fasters, including 6 Santa Clara University
students and 3 others from throughout the Bay Area.
We have a list of 11 endorsements (see below).
We are in communication with the police, do not need a permit,
and are planning on being present at the Site 24 hours a day.
Support is coming in but we still need more! What we still need:
financial support to purchase supplies and equipment for the site,
documentation materials, and food for the closing ceremony (send
contributions to Patricia Adams, 759 Madison St,
Santa Clara CA 95050)
Presence--we really need folks to put this into their calendars
and pledge to spend time at the Site, not only to support the Fasters
but also to send a clear message to the community that we do not
support the murder of Innocent Iraqis. Be sure to sign the GUEST
BOOK when you visit the Site so we can track all the support we
get.
Endorsements from groups, organizations, parishes, etc. ALSO: Keep
spreading the word to friends, family, co-workers, and community
members alike!
Thanks again. Please feel free to contact me with any questions,
concerns, etc.
In peace,
Patricia Adams

Five Day Fast to Let Iraq Live...You are Invited
Beginning the evening of Sunday, December 15th, and continuing
through the evening of Friday, December 20th, a Five Day Fast to
Let Iraq Live will be held in front of the Federal Building at Second
and San Carlos in Downtown San Jose, California. In the spirit and
tradition of nonviolence, community members from throughout the
South Bay and greater Bay Area will convence with the goal of demonstrating
sincere and earnest opposition to the continuing assault--from both
the Iraqi and US governments--against the innocent people of Iraq.
Most fasters will consume only water for the entire five-day period
beginning with the Opening Ceremony at 5:30 pm on Sunday and continuing
until the Closing Ceremony at 6pm on Friday. [Other forms of solidarity
fasting will take place as well.] Fasters, their Partners, and other
Supporters will be present at the Fast Site 24 hours a day. The
mood will be reverent yet hopeful and all are encouraged to visit
the site as often as possible. Daily press conferences will be held
M-F at noon to provide updates on the Fasters as well as the situation
in Iraq.
How You Can Get Involved: If being a Faster or Fast Partner is
not an option, consider volunteering as a group/community/parish
to be present for a specific period of time at the Fast Site, attending
the Opening Ceremony at 5:30pm on Sunday, 12/15 and the Closing
Ceremony at 5:30pm on Friday, 12/20, encouraging your group/community/parish
to Officially Endorse the Fast, donating money/other resources to
help make the Fast Happen.
All forms of support are welcome--let us know what you can do and
we'll plug you in...the sooner, the better!
Please register your form of support ASAP by emailing FastToLetIraqLive@yahoo.com
or calling Patricia at 408.423.9619. Organized by the Santa Clara
University Peace Action Committee.
