"Welcome Everyone and thank you for coming
to the opening ceremony and convocation for the 5-Day Fast
to Let Iraq Live. We know that it is cold and rainy and we
thank you for braving the elements to stand here with us tonight.
We'll be here 24 hours a day from now until Friday, and we
hope that you will consider joining us at other times throughout
the week especially at the closing ceremony right here at
5:30 on Friday.
We gather here tonight to join the opposition to the violence
that is being perpetrated in our name against the innocent
people of Iraq. We know that the first Gulf War and a decade
of sanctions, and continuous bombing have terrorised the Iraqi
people and attacked their very way of life, have killed a
million people, and that this new war could kill a million
more..."
