The people of Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan,
Philippines and Colombia continue to resist empire and colonial
rule.
Bush built his case for war against Iraq on a foundation of
lies and racism. Now, Iraqi people and U.S. soldiers are dying
daily. While millions are jobless, with education, healthcare,
and children in crisis, the Pentagon is spending $150 million/day
on the occupation of Iraq! This year the U.S. is sending more
than $10 billion to Israel - while an Israeli Apartheid Wall
is institutionalizing colonial Bantustans and imprisoning
an entire population with our money. The Pentagon is fighting
in Afghanistan, the Philippines
and Colombia, and threatening new wars against Korea, Syria,
and Cuba. "Regime Change" is being proposed for
Iran and Zimbabwe.
It seems there is never enough money to meet human needs,
but no shortage of funds for war and the propagation of hate.
With every military occupation, resistance mounts - and working
people in the U.S. end up paying the price. As we are pitted
against the people of the world, we pay with our lives and
taxes. Not every one is suffering of course: Bechtel, Halliburton,
Big Oil and military contractors stand to make billions from
colonizing Iraq. How many children of politicians or corporate
executives are fighting in Iraq? While pretending to “support
the troops,” Bush and Congress are slashing veterans’
benefits. Secure in the White House, Bush proclaimed “bring
‘em on,” inviting Iraqi resistance fighters to
U.S. troops. We say, “Bring the Troops
Home Now!”
Sept. 25-28, people around the world will join in International
Days of Protest Against War,
Occupation and Empire on the third anniversary of the Palestinian
Intifada (uprising). Join us.

We Interrupt
This Empire…
Dirs: The San Francisco Video Activist Network
2003, 52 minutes, video, color, English
What happens when a trigger-happy cowboy with a pocket full
of loot aims his guns on an oil-rich, people-poor nation?
The San Francisco Bay Area Video Activist Network presents
the story you won't see on Fox News: an eye-popping, jaw-dropping
look at the Bay Area's radical resistance to an illegal war.
"We Interrupt This Empire..." is a collaborative
work by many of the Bay Area's independent video activists
which documents the direct actions that shut down the financial
district of San Francisco in the weeks following the United
States' invasion of Iraq. With the audio backdrop including
live broadcasts of Enemy Combatant Radio from the SF Independent
Media, the documentary takes a look at the diverse show of
resistance from the streets of San Francisco as well as providing
a critique of the corporate media coverage of the war and
exploring such issues as the Military Industrial Complex,
attack on civil liberties, and the United States' current
imperialist drive.
The Video Activist Network is an informal association of
activists and politically conscious artists using video to
support social, economic and environmental justice campaigns.

Shut
Down Downtown Fogtown
2003, 87 minutes, video, color, English
Getting tired of the "embedded" perspective of corporate
owned media and the thin gruel that is served up as "news"
by the like's of our local news mannequins? Shut Down Downtown
Fogtown is a 87 minute compilation of short videos that were
produced during the United States' invasion of Iraq. Many
of them were screened at the free outdoor screenings at Dolores
Park in San Francisco while the massive anti-war protests
and disruptions were ongoing in the streets.

Wednesday,
September 24th, 7:00pm-9:00pm
Silicon Valley for Civil Rights, General Meeting |
It's no secret that
since September 11th, the federal government has engaged in
a massive crackdown on civil liberties. Muslims, Arabs, and
South-Asians have been rounded up for interrogations, detentions,
and deportations. FBI agents have been authorized to spy on
political and religious gatherings. And the Patriot Act threatens
all of us with its provisions for expanded surveillance and
invasions of privacy.
178
cities and counties nationwide have passed resolutions opposed
to the Patriot Act and this crackdown on civil liberties.
With the Bush Administration about to introduce "PATRIOT Act
II", it is important for Congress to know that there is local
opposition. That is why it is critical that Santa Clara County
take a stand for civil liberties and pass a resolution against
the PATRIOT Act.

Protest Lockheed Martin for Attacking Our
Free Speech! |
Protest Lockheed Martin for Attacking
Our Free Speech
Wednesday, Sept. 10th
at 4:30 - 6:00 PM
Lockheed Martin @ Mathilda & 3rd St., Sunnyvale
Bush is lying, GIs and Iraqi's are dying. American people
are losing their jobs and healthcare, while Lockheed Martin
profits. The CEO of Lockheed Martin's compensation from this
illegal war increased by a factor of 5, from
$5,000,000 in 2000 to $25,000,000 in 2003.
To add insult to injury, Lockheed Martin is now attacking
our free speech. Working with the Santa Clara County District
Attorney, Lockheed Martin seeks an unprecedented legal penalty:
Restitution to reimburse them for $15,000. They're charging
a small group of protesters, the Lockheed 52, for the cost
of alleged "additional security" on April 22nd during
a non-violent, peaceful protest and demonstration in Sunnyvale.
Come support the Lockheed
52, the protesters that Lockheed is charging
for the cost of their so-called, "additional security".
Protest appearances also will be made by Mrs. Dick Cheney
and Lockheed Martin's mascot "Smarty Marty, the Intelligent
Bomb", both are members of the talented Bay Area guerrilla
theater group the Ronald Reagan Home for the Criminally Insane.
Join us and take a stand for what makes our country truly
great -- our fundamental freedoms, our right to peaceful protest
and free speech.
Bring your own signs, raise your voice
again to make them hear:
Stop the War Profiteer's Attack on
Free Speech!

No to Foreign Intervention
No to Theocracy
| "For
nearly five decades, America's role in the military
coup that ousted Iran's elected prime minister and returned
the shah to power has been lost to history, the subject
of fierce debate in Iran and stony silence in the United
States. One by one, participants have retired or died
without revealing key details, and the Central Intelligence
Agency said a number of records of the operation —
its first successful overthrow of a foreign government
— had been destroyed.
But a copy of the agency's secret history of the coup
has surfaced, revealing the inner workings of a plot
that set the stage for the Islamic revolution in 1979,
and for a generation of anti-American hatred in one
of the Middle East's most powerful countries.
...
The operation, code-named TP-Ajax,
was the blueprint for a succession of C.I.A.
plots to foment coups and destabilize governments during
the cold war — including the agency's
successful coup in Guatemala in 1954 and the disastrous
Cuban intervention known as the Bay of Pigs in 1961.
In more than one instance, such operations led to the
same kind of long-term animosity toward the United States
that occurred in Iran."
...
|
"...
The Shah requires special preparation. By nature, a
creature of indecision, beset by formless doubts and
fears, he must be induced to play this role..."
TP-AJAX
Plan of the CIA.
Corbis/ Bettmann
The Shah of Iran and his wife, the Empress
Soraya, arrive at Rome airport from Bagdad August 18,
1953 after the unsuccessful royalist attempt to oust
Premier Mohammed Mossadegh. |
"The
secret history, along with operational assessments written
by coup planners, was provided to The Times by a former official
who kept a copy.
It was written in March 1954 by Dr. Donald N. Wilber, an expert
in Persian architecture, who as one of the leading planners
believed that covert operatives had much to learn from history."
